MICRO TEACHING PROGRAMME
Date : 14.11.2024 to 25.11.2024
A micro-teaching program was conducted for a week from 14th November 2024 to 25th November 2024, focusing on various teaching skills. Each day, a different skill was practiced with a small group of students, using teaching aids to help student teachers gain practical experience.
The skills covered included:
1. Skill of Stimulus Variation:
This skill involves varying teaching methods to capture students' attention and maintain their engagement. The sub-components practiced included : Teacher Movement, Teacher Gesture, Change in Speech Pattern, Change in Sensory Focus, Pupil Talk and Pupil Movement.
2. Skill of Set Induction:
A critical skill for starting a lesson, set induction is about grabbing students' attention and generating interest in the topic. The sub-components practiced included: Use of Previous Knowledge, Arousing Interest and Motivation, Gaining Attention, Cognitive Links and Structuring.
3. Skill of Explaining:
Clear explanation is vital for student understanding, and this skill focuses on conveying complex information in a simple, concise manner. The sub-components practiced included: Beginning Statement, Using Explaining, Questioning to Test Pupils' Understanding and Concluding Statement.
4. Skill of Probing Questions:
This skill is about asking questions that encourage critical thinking and exploration. The sub-components practiced included: Prompting, Seeking Further Information, Refocusing, Redirecting and Increase Critical Awareness.
5. Skill of Reinforcement:
Positive reinforcement is a powerful tool for motivating students and encouraging good behavior. The sub-components practiced included:Positive Verbal Reinforcement, Positive Non-Verbal Reinforcement, Proximity, Contact, Activity Reinforcement, Negative Verbal Reinforcement and Negative Non-Verbal Reinforcement.
6. Skill of Using Black Board:
Effective use of the blackboard is essential for illustrating key points and engaging students. The sub-components practiced included: Focusing the Relevant Matter, Spacing, Clarity, Making Tables/Diagrams/Graphs/Labeling, Posture and Rubbing of the Black-board.
7. Skill of Set Closure:
This final skill involves summarizing key points and assessing student understanding at the end of a lesson. The sub-components practiced included: Consolidation of Major Points, Application of the Present Knowledge in New Situations, Linking Past Knowledge with the Present Knowledge and Linking Present Knowledge with Future Knowledge.
A skill was practiced daily, with trainees teaching small concepts to a group of students. This hands-on approach helped us to develop our teaching skills and gain confidence in the classroom.
